Faculty and staff urged to complete training to prevent retaliation

Topics:

As part of the university’s work to reinforce its commitment to preventing retaliation and protecting those who report improper behavior, it is highly recommended that faculty and staff complete a new online training module.

The module, titled “Building a Culture That Thrives: Preventing Retaliation,” provides faculty and staff with information and resources needed for support if they need to report improper actions.

It is based on the Protection from Retaliation policy that prohibits acts or threats of retaliation, whether subtle or direct, that adversely affect employment or education as a result of making good-faith reports of wrongful conduct or participating in an investigation.

The online module will help faculty and staff:

  • Discover what retaliation looks like and how to prevent it.
  • Learn about the new policy to protect them from retaliation.
  • Identify where to go to ask confidential questions about taking action, and explore where to report if they decide to do so.

Completion of the module is highly recommended for all faculty and staff members, including student employees, temporary staff, bargained-for staff and graduate student employees at all three U-M campuses and Michigan Medicine. It will take approximately 25 minutes to complete.
