Community conversations to help drive DEI effort’s next steps at U-M

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will host a series of community conversations to gather feedback and input from the University of Michigan community to inform a yearlong planning period before the launch of the university’s next DEI strategic plan.

“These events will provide our community an opportunity to share ideas and provide input into our DEI efforts moving forward,” said Robert Sellers, vice provost for equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer. “Participation, feedback and input from our entire community will be essential to the success of our next DEI strategic planning effort.”

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

In the 2022-23 academic year, the university’s DEI planning efforts will rely on the input and engagement of the U-M community to build a more strategic, focused and impactful DEI plan. U-M will officially launch the next DEI strategic plan in fall 2023.

To supplement these efforts and keep the community abreast of pertinent information, ODEI has launched a transitional webpage with information and a timeline of activities to assist and engage the community in this renewed commitment to DEI.

The new webpage also outlines information related to the progress of the evaluation period, which is underway.

Just as the university continues to engage in development activities between fundraising campaigns, it will continue DEI commitments between strategic plans, including the work of the DEI implementation leads.

MORE INFORMATION

“The university’s DEI efforts are a perpetual work in progress, and we are committed to this ongoing journey,” Sellers said. “All of our efforts have, and will continue to help identify what has worked, what can be improved, and what remains unaddressed.”

I don’t see an opportunity for retirees to be included in the conversations. Just wondering if “inclusion” includes the prior staff members? Thanks!
