ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Four University of Michigan student-athletes -- Tommy Cope (men's swimming and diving), Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort (field hockey), Annika Hoffmann (rowing) and Strauss Mann (ice hockey) -- were named 2019-20 Academic All-District At-Large (first team) selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday (May 21).

To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a nominated student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, and must have participated in 50 percent of a team's competition. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. For student-athletes in spring sports, career statistics were used due to the low number of competitions completed.

Cope (Dayton, Ohio) was a two-time Big Ten champion in 2020, winning the 200-yard breaststroke and swimming a leg on the winning 800-yard freestyle relay. He had individually qualified for the NCAA Championships and became a three-time CSCAA All-American after the meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A recipient of a Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship, Cope graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and plans to return in the fall to pursue a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering.

Fernandez Lacort (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was named the 2019 Big Ten Athlete of the Year and an NFHCA First Team All-American after posting three goals, a team-best 12 assists and 18 points while serving as U-M's field general in the midfield. An economics major, she was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten and three-time NFHCA Academic Squad honoree.

Hoffmann (Geelong, Australia) has been a varsity eight contributor for Michigan Rowing since she stepped onto campus in the fall of 2017. She has won two Big Ten medals including one gold, and has rowed in boats that finished top-five in the NCAA twice (2V8, 4th, 2018; 1V8, 3rd, 2019). Hoffmann was part of two podium finishes at the NCAA Championships (3rd place, 2017, 2019) and a Big Ten Title-winning team last spring. She boasts a 4.0 GPA studying Political Science and Comparative Literature and was named Rowing's Elite 90 winner at the 2019 NCAA Championships. She speaks three languages (German, French), and has been Academic All-Big Ten, a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and a CRCA All-Academic honoree.

The Big Ten Goaltender of the Year, Mann (Greenwich, Conn.) also was a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, given to the nation's top goaltender. A finalist for the league Player of the Year and a first-team All-Big Ten selection, Mann's postseason accolades also include the Hal Downes Award as the team MVP. This season, Mann was third in the nation in save percentage at .939 and sixth in goals-against average at 1.85. With six shutouts, he tied the Michigan single-season record and holds the single-season program marks for save percentage and goals-against average. During the season, Mann was named a Big Ten Star of the Week four times.

All four honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The NCAA Division I Academic All-America Teams will be announced on Friday, June 19.
