ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In conjunction with the Big Ten Conference, the University of Michigan men's basketball program released its opponent breakdown Thursday (May 13) for the 2021-22 conference schedule.

For a fourth straight season, the Big Ten will feature a 20-game slate, including two early conference games -- one home, one away -- played around the Big Ten football championship weekend, Dec. 3-5. The remaining 18-game schedule will begin after the new year.

Continuing with its protected rivalry game, U-M will play a home-and-home against intrastate rival Michigan State. Additional home-and-home series for the Wolverines include Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue and Rutgers.

The Wolverines will host Maryland, Minnesota and Northwestern in single games at Crisler Center, while playing at Indiana, at Penn State and at Wisconsin in the three designated road games.

The Big Ten Tournament will be held in Indianapolis, Ind., at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Wednesday through Sunday, March 9-13. The NCAA Final Four is scheduled for the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La.

Last season, Associated Press National Coach of the Year Juwan Howard guided his Wolverines to a 23-5 record with a 14-3 Big Ten mark, as the Maize and Blue claimed the its 15th conference title after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled three games.

U-M went on to the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and advanced to the semifinal. On Selection Sunday, the Wolverines were the No. 1 seed in the NCAA East Region and advanced to their fourth straight Sweet 16. Following a victory over Florida State, U-M moved on to its fourth Elite Eight appearance in its last eight tournaments before suffering a 51-49 loss to UCLA.
