Following the launch of the five-year DEI Strategic Plan in 2016, the Ann Arbor campus introduced an annual DEI Summit. This event serves as a valuable platform for sharing progress updates, and information and ensuring transparency in our DEI initiatives. The DEI Summit takes place each fall semester and includes a campus-wide community assembly featuring a keynote speaker, a community update session spotlighting key aspects of the annual DEI report, and a multitude of school, college and unit-level events held throughout the campus.

More than 1,500 faculty, staff, and students participated in the Community Assembly in-person or online, featuring keynote speaker Van Jones.

Year One (2017)
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit, Year One: Celebrating Progress, Addressing Challenges gave campus community members the opportunity to learn about the work completed during the first year on both universitywide and unit-based plans to improve diversity, equity and inclusion. Events included a keynote speaker, an interactive panel and a ceremonial groundbreaking for a campus multicultural center.

U-M’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Strategic Plan “Many Voices, Our Michigan” was introduced to the university community on Oct. 6, 2016, through a day-long series of events and discussions.
