Michigan Map Society Lecture
Join Jean-François Palomino as he discusses early French mapping of the Great Lakes region and two noted cartographers who played seminal roles in introducing the Great Lakes to Europeans.
Jean-François Palomino has been working at Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) since 2000, first as a map librarian (from 2000 to 2016) and, since 2015, as Coordinator of the Heritage collections. He co-authored Mapping a Continent: Historical Atlas of North America, 1492-1814, published in 2007. Shortly thereafter, in 2008, he curated Ils ont cartographié l’Amérique, an exhibition of over one hundred rare maps held at the Grande Bibliothèque (Montreal). He is presently preparing a thesis on the production and circulation of geographical knowledge in New France at the end of the 17th century. Since 2009, he has published several articles on this topic.
